The Hatch Fund

At LIT, we believe that improv should be an inclusive and accessible form of theatre where anyone and everyone can play a part. In line with this vision, we want to reduce the barriers for people to experience the fun of spontaneous storytelling.

Every 2 months, THE HATCH FUND allows promising individuals to take our Level 1 Course for free, with no strings attached. It's our hope that this needs-based scholarship will help encourage greater diversity and accessibility in the Singaporean improv scene.

  • Improv is scriptless, but it isn’t chaotic! In fact, there are guidelines that improvisers generally follow to help make collaboration easier while in the moment. That’s why we say that improv is spontaneous, but not random!

During our classes, we’ll cover good practices that will help you communicate clearly to your teammates while allowing you the freedom to think out of the box!

  • Courses are recurring classes that we schedule regularly (usually every 2 months). During courses, we’ll cover the general principles of improv which are needed to understand improvisers from other communities.

Workshops, on the other hand, are specialised one-off classes. They are scheduled intermitently when demand arises for it, or when a coach visiting town is offering it.

  • Yes, we’re open to letting you skip ahead in our syllabus if you’ve already learnt improv elsewhere.

However, do contact us first so we can assess your experience level & which class you can potentially skip to!

  • We cannot guarantee that we can schedule makeup sessions for all cases. Improv is collaborative in nature, so we need a minimum quorum of students to proceed with any class. That’s why scheduling makeup sessions will be difficult for improv classes.

As such, we strongly encourage prospective students to commit to the schedule that they’ve signed up for.

  • We generally don’t allow previews for most of our classes. Due to improv’s collaborative nature, it’s more conducive for learning if students stay together throughout the duration of their class. We thus don’t offer class previews as it might be disruptive to the lesson flow.

That said, our only exception is our Taster Sessions! This mini-workshop, aptly named ‘LEARN IMPROV TODAY!’ will give attendees a taste of what they can expect from our Level 1 Courses.

  • For sure, we’re happy to host visiting coaches!
